Reiki is the re-emergence of an ancient Tibetan science and technique discovered in Japan in the mid 19^th century by Dr. Mikao Usui, a Japanese theologian.  Reiki is a Japanese word meaning universal life energy.

During a typical Reiki treatment, the receiver lies fully clothed on a treatment table and the Reiki practitioner hands are placed on or above the head, shoulders, back, chest, stomach and limbs. Regardless of where the hands are positioned, the Reiki power naturally finds its own paths, precisely where it is needed.  Universal energy flows not from the practitioner but rather through the practitioner’s hands into the client’s body. The hand positions cover the entire system of the endocrine glands, as well as all of the inner organs. They energize the human being on the physical level through the warmth of the hands, on the mental level through the thoughts or Reiki symbols, on the emotional level through the love that flows with them and on the energetic level through the Reiki power itself.

During a Reiki session both the receiver and the practitioner will be charged with Reiki by the cosmos. It is this energy that creates the relaxation and healing effects providing the means to:
